Nubian Square Welcomes Mayor Wu in Celebration of MassWorks' $1.5MM Funding



On February 15, Mayor Wu and Housing and Economic Development Secretary, Mike Kennealy, along with representatives of BPDA, BHA and local elected officials, joined the NuSq Ascends team to celebrate the $1.5 million funding awarded by MassWorks to the Nubian Square development.


The press conference took place at the Blair Lot in Roxbury and recognized a total of almost $9 million in funding contributed by MassWorks to economic development and housing projects in Roxbury, Jamaica Plain, and Charlestown.


During the press conference, Mayor Wu, Mike Kennealy and the BPDA shared their commitment to the NuSq Ascends project and vision. “These MassWorks grants will provide critical funding to redevelop affordable housing, and create local economic development that supports good jobs for our residents,” said Mayor Wu.


Mike Kennealy also stated, “Through partnerships like this one with the city of Boston, we can continue to foster economic growth while ensuring the positive impacts of these investments are felt in all neighborhoods in Boston and across Massachusetts.”


MassWorks’ $1.5 million contribution will go towards design and permitting and will be combined with private financing of $3.5 million.
